Hotel rooms overlooking the bay in St Helier

Sea view rooms

  1. Guest reviews
  2. Sea view rooms

If you want a hotel room with a sea view in St Helier, this is what Marina Metro Hotel offers. The hotel has 34 en-suite bedrooms across three broad types: standard rooms, side sea view rooms, and full sea view rooms.

A full sea view room looks directly out over the bay at Havre des Pas. Because the hotel sits on the promenade with only the sea wall between the building and the water, the view is of the sea itself rather than of the sea in the distance. Guests write about waking to it, and about falling asleep to the sound of the waves against the wall below.

A side sea view room has an angled or partial view rather than a direct one. It is a genuine sea view, but it is not the same thing, and guests who have had both are clear about the difference.

The standard rooms are on the road facing side of the building. That matters for more than the view. There is a public house across the road, and the front facing rooms pick up more noise from it and from traffic, particularly on warm evenings with the windows open. Our own advice, given in reply to guests over the years, is that if you are a light sleeper it is worth paying the difference for a sea facing room.

All rooms are en-suite, with tea and coffee making facilities, a television, a telephone and free wifi. Some have a fridge. There is a lift to the upper floors. Guests comment often on the beds and on the quality of the bed linen.

Wonderful, really pleased. It's a gem

Ian//4 out of 5

We visit Jersey three times a year, and normally stay in the centre at the Grand or the Yacht, but this time needed to be in this location. Decided on the Marina Metro, and what a wonderful choice. Staff were super, helpful and polite, as was the manager. The rooms are not five star, but they are clean, and the view was exceptional from our full sea view room. It's a gem.

Friendly, flexible, independent hotel

Peter//5 out of 5

Had been in Jersey for a week on business and found I needed to stay a few more nights, but none of the chain hotels had rooms. Booked following a recommendation from a colleague, direct on the website, two hours before arriving. Staff kindly held my room until the next afternoon to see if I needed to stay.

What this guest liked: Sea view room practically at the water's edge. After a stressful week at work it was very nice to wake up to the sound of waves lapping up against the sea wall below. Restaurant simple but nice food.

Great location, room upgrade with full sea view

pamela//4 out of 5

Stayed with my daughter for a week's holiday. On checking in we were upgraded to a full sea view, which was wonderful for going to sleep at night listening to the sea.

What this guest liked: Good location next to the beach and easy access to town. Some nice places around to eat. Excellent breakfast.

What they would change: A little disappointed the upstairs bar didn't seem to be open.

The view from the room made our stay memorable

We arrived by air and got to the hotel by half ten. We knew our room would not be ready but we were happy to wait and enjoy a drink on the hotel terrace. The lady on reception was very pleasant and showed us to our room.

What this guest liked: We booked a full sea view room as we enjoy a lovely view on waking and the sound of the sea, which we were not disappointed with. The bed was very comfortable and the towels were fluffy and clean.

What they would change: The terrace furniture was put away around us in the evening.

Glad we opted for a sea view room

A last minute short break based entirely in St Helier. Our first time on Jersey, and there was plenty to keep us occupied, plus plenty of food and drink establishments.

What this guest liked: About ten minutes walk into St Helier main town centre but also on a bus route. Its location right by the sea made this a fairly unique stay, as we had lovely views and the sound of the sea when the tide was in.

What they would change: Hotel decor was a little dated at the time, but the room and ensuite were very clean.

A friendly hotel in a lovely spot a stone's throw from the beach

We really enjoyed our stay at the Marina Metro Hotel in St Helier for a mini break to explore Jersey and would heartily recommend it to others.

What this guest liked: The clean room with the beautiful sea view, the breakfasts, and the friendly service.

Very pleasant and relaxing short break in a great location

Lesley//4 out of 5

Four night short break to explore the beaches and places of interest in Jersey. Stayed at the hotel before. Great location and the sea view rooms are superb. Bed really comfortable, slept like a log. Recommend the St Helier waterfront, the War Tunnels, Durrell Wildlife Park, Gorey Castle and St Brelade's beach.

What this guest liked: Great location right on the beach and walkable into St Helier. Breakfast available until 10am, unusual but most welcome for those who value a bit of a lie in. Staff very friendly and helpful.

A little gem of a hotel

Alan//5 out of 5

A five night stay that was great value for the amount I paid.

What this guest liked: Just what I was looking for: a small hotel in a good location with a sea view. It had great friendly staff and good food.

Good value and convenient to stay in St Helier

Erika//5 out of 5

The hotel arranged our airport transfers and it was fairly priced and the service was excellent too. On arrival at around 9am our room was ready and they let us check in early. We had a room with four single beds with a side sea view. The beds are comfy. The room is clean and big enough for the four of us, with enough wardrobe and drawers. They clean the room every day. The English breakfast is deliciously done too.

What this guest liked: The hotel is in front of the beach. The lady who served us every breakfast is very friendly.

Off season weekend break

Barry//4 out of 5

Long weekend, off season, so the hotel restaurant and bar were closed, but that was not a problem as we had been advised of this when we booked.

What this guest liked: Got a free upgrade to a sea view room but would have paid the extra for the great view. Had trouble getting a taxi to a restaurant and one of the managers offered to go home and get his car for us.

Great hotel for our honeymoon

Simon//5 out of 5

We booked with Marina Metro for our honeymoon on the basis of other reviews and it was great. Slight mix up about the taxi from the airport, but Marina Metro had a coach pick us up in ten minutes.

What this guest liked: Staff all very friendly and helpful, especially Jill on reception. Location was fine with a sea view and town just around the corner.

Decent hotel, friendly staff

Jennifer//4 out of 5

I was staying a night before catching a ferry to Sark the following morning. Room was clean and spacious, with a decent bathroom. I had booked a single room with an inland view, but was given a double with a partial sea view which was nice, and a lovely start to my holiday.

What this guest liked: It was exactly what I needed.

Excellent value for the price

Helen//4 out of 5

My stay was for business. I was looking for a value priced hotel close to all amenities, and this hotel was great. Confirmation and taxi arrangements quick and efficient.

What this guest liked: Room had all I needed, great view over the bay. Staff were friendly and very helpful.

Questions guests ask

How many bedrooms does the hotel have?

Marina Metro Hotel has 34 en-suite bedrooms. Some third party listings show 29 or 36, both of which are incorrect.

The rooms are a mixture of standard rooms, side sea view rooms and full sea view rooms, in single, double, twin and family configurations.

What is the difference between a side sea view and a full sea view room?

A full sea view room looks directly out over the bay. A side sea view room has an angled or partial view of the sea rather than a direct one.

Guests who have paid the difference for a full sea view consistently say it was worth it. The hotel's own published advice is that the sea facing rooms are also the quieter ones, because the standard rooms are on the road facing side of the building.

Is it worth paying extra for a sea view?

Guest reviews are unusually consistent on this point. Those who booked a full sea view describe waking to the view and falling asleep to the sound of the waves against the sea wall as the highlight of the stay.

One guest who was upgraded on arrival wrote that they would have paid the extra had they known. Another described the room as practically at the water's edge.

What is in the rooms?

All bedrooms are en-suite. Rooms include tea and coffee making facilities, a television, a telephone, and free wifi. Some rooms have a fridge.

Guests frequently praise the beds and the bed linen, with several saying they were among the most comfortable hotel beds they had slept in. The hotel runs a continuing programme of refurbishment, so the condition of individual rooms varies.

Is there a lift?

Yes, there is a lift serving the upper floors, which guests have noted as useful when staying in an upstairs room.

Is the hotel suitable for families?

Children are welcome and the hotel has family rooms. Guests have described Havre des Pas as a good beach for children, with the bathing pool a few minutes away.

If you are travelling with children and are a light sleeper, ask for a sea facing room rather than one at the front over the road.
